A Memoir
40 Going On 80

Kemi Ann-Melody Areola
In her over 40 years’ sojourn in life, she has traversed continents, related with numerous people from different backgrounds, cultures, orientations and walks of life; she has enjoyed numerous victories and suffered endless let-downs – more than many twice her age may experience. Yet, selected experiences contained in this book from her first 41 years on earth offer more than a glimmer of hope.
Born in the UK, she first set foot on her dearly beloved country, Nigeria, as a 6-year-old. Her love for people and motherland has however come at a cost, not only for her but her loved ones. As a Nigerian child in ‘winterland’, nostalgia shaped her love for a country she knew only from afar for a quite long time. In later years, after an almost infinite back-and-forth, she decided to establish her feet on Nigerian soil with a permanent return home in 2014.
In 40 Going on 80, Kemi Ann-Melody Areola, an engineer and PR consultant—both by training and practice—shares rare insights into some of her most pivotal moments in life, navigating cultures, traditions, people, career and so much more. With her experiences and diverse encounters, along with the lessons that accompanied them, she desires to inspire generations to come and guide younger ones—and even elders—on how to manage success and failure and ultimately thrive on many of life’s troubled paths.
